After working in dermatology in other practices for over a decade, John Tieman, FAAD, set out on his own in 1991. His mission then was to provide patients with the care they might expect to receive in a large city, but in New Braunfels. He also pledged to take time with each person in his office. Time to listen. Time to explain. And time to fully address every patient’s needs and concerns.
Today, nothing’s changed other than the addition of a few more staff members and Erika Kelso, a superb Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in medical and cosmetic dermatology – and expert care and service, of course.

Dr. Tieman is a native of Austin, Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin. Immediately after college, he worked as a microbiologist at the Texas Department of Health in the Parasitology and Virology laboratories. He then moved to San Antonio and attended Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center. After a 2-year Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Kentucky, he returned to San Antonio for a 3-year Dermatology Residency. In his third year, he served as the Chief Resident in Dermatology.
Dr Tieman is Board Certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has been in private practice in Dermatology in New Braunfels since 1991. He enjoys seeing patients of all ages and treating diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. He has over 30 years of experience surgically treating skin cancers.
Dr. Tieman married his high school sweetheart, Laurie, and they have 2 adult children and 2 cats (Scout and Dill). He enjoys traveling with his wife, especially to America’s National Parks.
